If it rains, the sunflower maze at Lyman Orchards in Middlefield is closed, but a drive to see the fields of blazing color is still worth a drive. Lyman's has two mazes - a corn maze located near their Apple Barrel store and the sunflowers, higher up in the orchards on a winding road that offers drop-dead beautiful scenic vistas. Those hungry for a taste of vibrant color can get their fill - weeks before the autumn leaves put on their glorious show.

There are many orchards in Connecticut - Lymans offers a nearly unbroken expanse of land, fields and orchards without housing interspersed to break up the overall feeling of a true farm. (Otherwise, it's necessary to drive to western Massachusetts or Vermont to find the same open space.)
