Draft Horses Hitch Up - Aug. 30 at Brooklyn Fair or Chester Fair



A gathering of teams and their drivers will converge at the Draft Horse Show on Sunday, Aug. 30 at Brooklyn Fair, Brooklyn, Conn. Produced by Windham County Agricultural Society, the fair celebrates its 200th anniversary. The Chester Fair opens Friday, Aug. 28. Events in the center ring include:

Pony pulls at 7 p.m.

The cattle draws start at 9 a.m. on Saturday and continue all day.

Sunday, Aug. 30, draft horse pulls start at 10 a.m.


Don't miss the mechanical horsepower competing at the antique tractor pull, 6:30 p.m.

The live music and other entertainment continues all three days.

The Chester Fair is produced by members of the Chester Agricultural and Mechanical Society, and is a member of the Association of Connecticut Fairs and the International Association of Fairs and Expositions.

Work The Earth, Team Style


There's nothing like the scent of horse, leather, freshly plowed earth, all intermingled.

Next event for members of the Eastern Connecticut Draft Horse Association is Saturday, May 9, “Plowing the Community Garden” at Wilbraham, Mass. Start time is 10 a.m.

Teamsters from the ECDHA will plow the town’s three-acre community garden using horses and oxen.
