New Gifted Music Program Launched by TED

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader.

Look at the spectacular results of El Sistema by viewing the unforgettable youth orchestra performance at this year's TED conference, shown below.



In February 2009, the visionary Venezuelan musician Dr. José Antonio Abreu made his TED Prize wish to bring the world-acclaimed El Sistema program of youth music education to the United States.

In his words:
"I wish you would help create and document a special training program for at least 50 gifted young musicians, passionate for their art and for social justice, and dedicated to developing El Sistema in the US and in other countries."

TED is launching that program.

The course will be based at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.

Subject to funds raised, the program is ready to open this fall with spots for the first 18 fellows.
