Funded: Study For How Viable Are Small, Medium Dairies In New England

Where does your family's gallon of milk come from?

The University of Connecticut was awarded $404,966 federal grant to study the financial and environmental viability of small- and medium-sized New England dairy farms.

The money is through the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative run by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, according to the office of U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney, D-2nd District.

There are 152 small to medium-sized dairy farms in Connecticut.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Agriculture and Food Research Initiative offers competitive grants for fundamental and applied research, extension, and education to address food and agriculture concerns.
