I speak for the bees,
The bats with white noses,
The ancient trees.
The lichens that once changed
with every rain.
We are losing small battles,
searching for answers, in vain.
Life is passing,
and so are we.
Here's to the real things that matter,
the rich scent of earth, life and diversity.
Spring is swamp walks,
Pussywillows and okalee!
Next is the skunk cabbage,
The trillums,
The sneeze.
Pine pollen will blanket my Jeep.
The frogs trill neep,
(they chuckle, they bark),
Choruses of peepers say peep.
The time wanes for snowdrops,
Yet bluebirds take wing.
The earth wakes up.
It is already spring.
