Curtis Hanks is president of Smith-Worthington Saddlery in Hartford. The company was started in 1794 (George Washington was President) and is known internationally for its quality saddles.
Original methods and materials, such as pure linen webbing, steel reinforced trees, pigskin seats, and virgin wool flock stuffing are still used to create saddles and fitting one was the focus of a workshop given by Hanks at UConn.
In addition to manufacturing saddles and related leather goods, Smith-Worthington imports and distributes saddles, bridles, training equipment, sheets and blankets, bits, spurs, stirrups, protective head wear, boots, whips and crops.
