Sunny Days, Cold Nights, Make Maple Sap Flow

It's time. Members of Connecticut Maple Syrup Producers (www.CTmaple.org) are placing the spiles to gather maple sap for making maple syrup.

The annual Hebron Maple Festival is March 14 and 15. See maple syrup being made at Hope Valley, Wenzel, Woody Acres Sugarhouses and Winding Brook sugarhouses (maps provided at the festival), or sample sugar on snow (drizzled syrup on ice or snow). Taste maple baked goods at various booths, visit the volunteer fire department exhibits or head out early for a pancake breakfast.

For information visit www.hebronmaplefest.com. For a listing of sugarhouses open to the public (and when), visit the Connecticut Department of Agriculture site, www.ct.gov/doag, and click on the "Maple Sugarhouses" link.
